Devotion (#46)

Jesus uses loaves and fish from the boy's lunch to feed over five thousand men (not including women and children) and there are 12 basketfuls left over. The story continues (Mark 6:45,46):

"45Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray."

If I was there, how would I have reacted to what just happened? Now getting on the boat with the disciples and going ahead without Jesus, what conversations would have taken place? Can you believe what just happened? or Who is this guy? or What a day? I don't think anything could top that? After a long day of teaching and then distributing food to thousands - food that never existed until Jesus miraculously extended/created it - I think my mind would be overwhelmed and blown away. I wouldn't hesitate to think nothing else could happen and a day of miracles is over. The miracle was done, we're now by ourselves resting on a boat to our next destination; nothing else is going to happen tonight, right? Dazed, confused, and wanting rest, Jesus sends us on the boat ahead of him and, yet, the story does continue. Even though we think our job is done - or better yet we think God is done - he brings out all the stops.

Imagine yourself in the story as you read on and enjoy.

46 days!

Luke
